The measure seeks to promote the coexistence of all users of public roads in safe conditions
Benidorm strengthens signage and controls on scooter use in pedestrian areas

Benidorm City Council, through its Department of Citizen Safety, has reinforced the vertical signage reminding pedestrians of the ban on scooters in pedestrian zones. This was announced today by the councillor for the department, Jesús Carrobles, who added that this measure is accompanied by more police controls at sensitive areas with high pedestrian traffic.
Thus, "starting this afternoon, control and surveillance efforts will be intensified to ensure compliance with the regulations regarding these vehicles," with the aim of "guaranteeing road safety, especially for pedestrians, but also for scooter riders." Therefore, these riders will also be required to wear helmets and have mandatory civil liability insurance.
After emphasising that "the Department of Public Service and Local Police is working to promote safe coexistence for all road users," Carrobles recalled that "last November, a first phase of signage was deployed in pedestrian zones where the greatest non-compliance with regulations by scooter users had been detected."
Now, "in this second phase, we are reinforcing the already signposted points in the Old Town and Paseo de Levante and are including other strategic points and areas with significant pedestrian traffic."
Statistics compiled by the Local Police confirm that "a very high percentage of infractions committed by scooter riders are related to riding in pedestrian zones."
