The City Council allocates 50,000 euros to guarantee the care, accommodation, and care of animals collected in the city
Benidorm strengthens its commitment to animal welfare and renews its agreement with the Animal Shelter

Benidorm City Council today formalised the renewal of its collaboration agreement with the Marina Baixa Animal and Plant Protection Society, the organisation responsible for sheltering and caring for abandoned domestic animals in the municipality. The agreement, signed by the mayor, Toni Pérez, and the president of the shelter, Pilar López, includes a municipal contribution of €50,000 to cover the costs of collection, maintenance, and veterinary care.
According to the mayor, with this direct subsidy, "we ensure that the service continues to be provided with full guarantees." Pérez emphasised "Benidorm's commitment and sensitivity to animals that lack a home and need protection."
Also present at the event was Ana Pellicer, the Councillor for Health, who emphasised that this aid allows the shelter "to care for all animals collected on public streets, covering both their food and the necessary veterinary care." She also highlighted the educational and awareness-raising work carried out by the organisation, as well as the campaigns it promotes to promote responsible adoption.
Pellicer also highlighted the support the shelter provides to people who, due to personal circumstances, are no longer able to care for their animals. Both she and the mayor called for civic responsibility, stressing that adoption implies a "long-term commitment to a living being."
On the other hand, it is worth remembering that the Municipal Environmental Ordinance considers the abandonment of domestic animals a "very serious" offence, punishable by a fine of up to 900 euros.
