Hundreds of locals and tourists gathered to see Virgin Mary in the streets of the old town
Benidorm revives the celebration of the Inmaculada Concepción with a mass and a procession
The streets of the old town celebrated yesterday the revival of one of the most popular local traditions: Inmaculada Concepción. After several years without a committee, one was formed this year, presided over by Maite Rostoll and including ten female organisers and a total of 54 members of 'Hijas de María', most of whom are current and former members of the Patron Saint Festival committee.
The celebration began with a noon mass at the parish church of San Jaime and continued in the afternoon with a procession that departed from the church and proceeded along Mayor Street, Alameda, Paseo de la Carretera, and returned to the church via Calle de la Santa Faz. Throughout the procession, hundreds of residents and tourists accompanied the image of the Virgin Mary to the church. Members of the local council also participated in the procession, led by Mayor Toni Pérez, accompanied by the president of the commission, Maite Rostoll, the councillor for Fiestas, Mariló Cebreros and the regional deputy, José Ramón González de Zárate.
