The City Council will cover 100% of the cost of these students' attendance to ensure that they can be in the most appropriate environment and facilitate their families' reconciliation
Benidorm offers summer school scholarships for eight children with severe special needs at El Secanet Community School for the first time

For the first time, Benidorm City Council will provide 100% scholarships for summer school attendance to eight children with severe special needs at El Secanet public special education school, located in the neighbouring town of La Vila Joiosa. All of them are enrolled and attend regularly throughout the school year. This was announced by the city's mayor, Toni Pérez, and the Councilor for Education, Maite Moreno, who stated that "we continue to make progress in the support this City Council provides to families in our city to help them balance their work and family life during the school holidays; in this case, by collaborating with households with a child who requires very specific attention and who will be able to attend a summer school fully adapted to their needs."
Thus, the Benidorm City Council will invest 12,600 euros in these grants to cover the costs of children's attendance during July and August and, in turn, alleviate family expenses. This is a resource that is "very necessary for the students, but also for their families and caregivers," Moreno said.
The councillor explained that the City Council "contacted all Benidorm families with children enrolled at El Secanet through the school's Parent-Teacher Association (AMPA). The conditions, dates, and times were explained, and ultimately, eight families requested to participate in this municipal aid program. She also indicated that "the cost of these grants is high since the children require very specific attention," with five tutors for eight students. In this regard, Maite Moreno recalled that the regular Summer School, organized by the Marina Baixa Federation of Parents and Parent-Teacher Associations (AMPAS) in collaboration with the City Council, "has for years offered care to children with specific needs enrolled in regular schools, but lacked the resources and specialized personnel to serve students with more severe needs, as is the case here, making it unfeasible for these children to attend the school during July and August."
Thus, thanks to scholarships funded by the City Council, these eight children and adolescents will be able to attend the summer school at the El Secanet CEE throughout the summer, following the school's session schedule, which is set from July 1 to 18 and August 4 to 22, Monday to Friday, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Moreno also reported that the regular Summer School, which this year is being held at the Miguel Hernández public preschool and primary school and whose schedule also begins tomorrow, July 1, will have two full integration classrooms this summer, with capacity for a total of 16 students.
