Benidorm Local Police are analyzing how to act in situations involving minors
As part of the commemorative events for the 182nd anniversary of the creation of Benidorm Local Police, the auditorium of the Llorca Linares Social Centre hosted a training session entitled "Police Intervention with Minors," led by specialist and officer Rubén J. Martínez of the Benidorm Local Police.
The session was organised by the Professional Union (SPPLB) in collaboration with the Benidorm Local Police Sociocultural Association, the Local Police Headquarters, and the Department of Citizen Security. The SPPLB is the leading union in the City Council and its works council.
The Councillor for Public Service, Jesús Carrobles, along with the Chief Commissioner of the Local Police, José Carlos Amorós, officially welcomed the more than one hundred participants who attended the session, most of whom were officers of the force, municipal social services staff, and young students and future police officers.
Carrobles explained that this type of specialised training allows “our officers to handle interventions involving minors, or in which they participate, with particular sensitivity, prudence, and above all, with a strong sense of responsibility and knowledge.”
“Training is always beneficial,” he added, “and it’s a point in our favour to have our officers better informed and prepared.” The councilman thanked the participants for attending and congratulated the organisers for their excellent choice of topics and instructor, as well as for the PLBND members’ ongoing commitment to training, enabling them to “better serve the public, and in this case, minors.”
Following the remarks by the institutional representatives, Francisco Ángel González, from the SPPLB, Julián Eloy Carrillo, president of the Police Sociocultural Association, and representatives from the works council, introduced the speaker and the day’s agenda. The union representative took the opportunity to urge the City Council to create the necessary positions within the public administration to ensure the best possible response to citizens, especially minors.
The training session continued with a presentation by Rubén J. Martínez, who elaborated on the fundamental principles of police conduct with minors, emphasising the child's best interests and respectful, age-appropriate treatment. He also covered how to proceed if a minor is suspected of or has committed a crime, the Juvenile Responsibility Law, how to handle a potential arrest, the role of the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office, and the guarantee of a fair defence tailored to each case.
