This new unit will be located at Gabriel Miró school

Benidorm is introducing a classroom this school year to support the inclusion of students with special educational needs

27 August 2025
Benidorm incorpora este curso un aula para favorecer la inclusión del alumnado con necesidades específicas

Benidorm's public education system will be adding a new UECO (Specific Unit in a Regular School) classroom for the upcoming 2025-2026 academic year to better serve the city's students with special needs in Early Childhood and Primary Education. This was stated by Mayor Toni Pérez, who noted that with this new unit approved by the Ministry of Education, "we continue to make progress in ensuring the best education and services for all students, in this case, children with specific needs and their families, to give them the best opportunities to develop their education and continue their education on equal terms with others."

The new UECO classroom will be situated at Gabriel Miró public school, located within the Salt de l'Aigua educational complex. It joins those already operating at the El Murtal, Mestre Gaspar López, and Ausiàs March primary schools, as well as the one that has been in operation since last year at the Mediterrània secondary school. Additionally, it complements the educational integration program that also operates at the Beatriu Fajardo secondary school in Mendoza.

The Councillor for Education, Maite Moreno, noted that, therefore, "four units will now be available in preschool and primary schools and two in secondary schools in our city." She added that these units are a resource for students with mental or motor disabilities or developmental disorders "who need individual and specific support, and are provided in mainstream schools to promote the integration and inclusion of all students."

For his part, Toni Pérez has publicly thanked the Ministry of Education, headed by José Antonio Rovira, for the incorporation of this new UECO classroom, which "comes to embrace a part of our students and to attend to them in their diversity", also highlighting that these classrooms "are an example of inclusion and that from the administrations we must continue promoting to guarantee the principles of quality, equal opportunities, equity and universal accessibility to education
