González de Zárate values 'A pie de Calle' campaign because "it helps us to know and meet the demands of our neighbors"

Benidorm incorporates an outdoor fitness circuit for the elderly population in Finca Barrina Park after a neighborhood request

Benidorm incorpora elementos biosaludables en el parque de Finca Barrina tras la petición vecinal

Benidorm City Council has completed the installation of bio-healthy elements in the Finca Barrina Park as promised to the residents of the area after the opening of the new facility last January. The installation of this circuit for the elderly population had been a request from the residents themselves when they understood that the facility could also be used by older people, in addition to children in the children's playground.

“We have completed what the neighbours asked us for after enabling this park. They told us that with these elements the elderly could improve their health and that is how we have acted," said the Councilor for Parks and Gardens, José Ramón González de Zárate, who yesterday afternoon visited the park with the councillor for Citizen Participation, Ana Pellicer, and several neighbours in another day of the 'At the foot of the street' campaign.

The performance has been complemented with some gardening arrangements. “It turned out very well once it was finished,” said González de Zárate, who valued this campaign “because it helps us understand and meet the demands of residents in each area of Benidorm.”

The councillor has clarified that in the public part of the urbanization “we have done 100% of what they asked of us; lighting, asphalt, gardening, solid waste collection... ”but he has clarified that “in the private part of the urbanization, which does not correspond to the City Council, unfortunately, we cannot act there.”

This park was opened to the public last January after an action that arose within the participatory budgets. Already at that time, it was announced that the intention was to complete “a mixed park model in which the youngest and the oldest have a place.”

This new recreational facility is located on a municipal plot of almost three thousand square meters (2,780 m2). The work began months ago with the first phase of pruning and clearing and the removal of the railway sleepers that were located there to the authorized landfill. Subsequently, to condition the park, 200 cubic meters of gravel were placed on anti-weed mesh throughout the plot. At the same time, myrtle specimens, an evergreen shrub, were planted to form a hedge and the relevant drip irrigation system was installed, with a connection to its network.

The last step to clean up the plot consisted of placing children's games, with artificial grass paving and a fenced surface to ensure the safety of small users, which has been completed with bio-healthy elements for the elderly in the neighbourhood. A perimeter fence was also placed to provide greater security.
