Benidorm hosts the third stage of Costa Blanca Bike Race, the first international event of 2017 sports calendar
Costa Blanca Bike Rice has disputed today the third of its four stages, which has taken off in Benidorm at ten o'clock in the morning, with the sun as a protagonist, in Avenida Vicente Llorca Alós in La Cala and with the beaches and the Island of Benidorm background. The mayor of Benidorm and head of Tourism, Toni Pérez, and the first deputy mayor and councilor of Sports, Ana Pellicer, have been in charge of cutting the tape at the exit at the beach.
The race has run for several hundred meters by the sea until it diverted to the field where the race was launched, which in this third stage has its goal in the town of Villajoyosa. More than 200 national and international top-level riders, including two Olympic medalists, Carlos Coloma and Anna van der Breggen, are taking part in this international event included in the UCI calendar.
Benidorm, consolidated as the main destination of sun and beach in the Mediterranean, now seeks to open a new market and position itself as a reference for sports tourism, taking advantage of its climatic conditions, its natural environment, and public and private facilities the city has. A proposal that was already protagonist in the last edition of the International Fair of Tourism of Madrid, Fitur 2017.
Costa Blanca Bike Race is the first international sporting event hosted by Benidorm in the 2017 calendar, which includes more than 35 events in more than 15 different modalities during the year, which are expected to exceed 11,000 professional and amateur national participants and international.
In addition, Benidorm aims to show its potential as the venue for the winter stages of top-level European clubs of different modalities, among them and especially cycling, and consolidate in this segment, which is a very positive projection of the image of the city for the media impact that it generates, as well as for overnight hotel stays outside the peak occupancy seasons.
