Ten restaurants join this second edition of the local gastronomic calendar
' Benidorm Gastronómico' will celebrate the II Tuna Days from May 6 to 15
'BenidormGastronómico' will celebrate the II Tuna Days from May 6 to 15, the second activity of the local gastronomic calendar organized by the City Council with the Association of Bars, Restaurants and Cafeterias (Abreca). For this edition, ten Benidorm restaurants have joined the conference, as was known this morning during the presentation of the event, which took place in Torrejó.
Mayor Toni Pérez has travelled there, with members of the corporation, and Francisco Javier del Castillo, president of Abreca, has also been present; Alex Frattini, member of the association's board of directors, and this year's godfather, Manuel Ruiz Girona, from the Ongi Etorri restaurant, among others.
In the presentation, the mayor highlighted that the Benidorm Gastronómico "continues to recover the pulse with the return to normality that allows us to resume the enhancement of our hallmarks. It is a positive note and an added value at a time when the city is recovering its normality”.
For this edition, the restaurants will offer all their dishes and recipes made with bluefin tuna, for which the prestigious Arrom Barcelona brand has been used. In this sense, Pérez has highlighted that "the menu offered in the establishments is very specific, which invites diners to come because the type of dish they are going to find is detailed".
"May is the month in which the tuna is juiciest and the recipes are made with great care and care because in Benidorm we still maintain the tuna tradition" pointed out the mayor who has placed gastronomy as "a way of remembering that glorious past with a few days dedicated to a star product of our kitchen”.
For his part, the president of Abreca has shown himself to be "proud" of presenting these Conferences, which he has described as "very important" because it deals with an "ecological and competitive" product such as tuna, which he has identified as "the Iberian pig of the sea because all its parts are used"
Francisco Javier del Castillo has also expressed the variety of dishes that can be made based on tuna "from all places and areas of the world" and has stated that "that is why we want to work on it and show that Benidorm's gastronomy is important and does the good things”. At the same time, he has indicated that it is "a tribute and recognition to trap netters, fishermen and captains of an activity that has been very important in the town from the seventeenth century to the 60s of the last century."
Del Castillo and the mayor have encouraged "the entire province and the region to stop by our establishments to taste and enjoy the dishes, preparations and presentations that we have prepared for them."
On this occasion, a standard price has not been established in the participating establishments because, as explained by the president of Abreca, “these are very versatile days, since some will make tapas, other dishes and other themed menus. In addition, tuna is not a cheap product and we have preferred that the prices remain at the choice of the restaurant”.
The mayor has closed the presentation by expressing the City Council's commitment to the local hospitality industry. "We all must help in difficult times and this is a great opportunity to do so because tuna should have such a great presence as our history reflects" he concluded.
