The victims are a 49-year-old woman murdered in the street by her ex-partner in Malaga and another 24-year-old woman in A Coruña

Benidorm expresa su repulsa por los cuatro crímenes machistas confirmados en las últimas horas en nuestro país

Benidorm City Council showed this Wednesday its rejection and condemnation of the last four sexist crimes confirmed in our country by the Government Delegation against Gender Violence, with a silent rally at the Town Hall square. It has been headed by the mayor of the city, Toni Pérez, and members of the Municipal Corporation have also participated to show the unanimous rejection of these murders, which occurred in the provinces of Málaga, Almería and A Coruña.

The first of the victims is a 49-year-old woman, who was shot by her ex-partner last Saturday, March 16, in the town of Pizarra (Málaga), in front of her daughter. The attacker later committed suicide. The victim had a minor daughter and there were no previous complaints of gender violence.

A minute of silence has also been observed for the girls aged 2 and 4 whose father took their lives by poisoning them with pesticide on Sunday, March 17, in the town of Gérgal (Almería). As in the previous case, the man, who was separated from the victim's mother and had a history of gender violence, took his own life after killing the minors using the same pesticide with which he had poisoned his daughters.

Finally, the Government Delegation against Gender Violence has also confirmed as a case of sexist violence the murder of another 24-year-old woman, this Tuesday, March 19, by her ex-partner in the A Coruña municipality of Ribeira. After perpetrating the crime, the man tried to take his own life after confessing the crime to a family member over the phone, but he failed and is now hospitalized. The victim had a minor son and there were previous reports of attacks against the aggressor by another partner.

With these crimes, the number of women who have been murdered by their partners or ex-partners so far this year amounts to seven and 1,247 since 2003, the year in which these victims began to be counted. Likewise, the number of minors murdered as a result of sexist violence since 2013 is 54, while so far this year eight minors have been orphaned in 2024 and 440 since 2013.

The Department of Equality, headed by Councilor Ángela Zaragozí, recalls that Benidorm City Council has personnel specialized in gender violence to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened.

Likewise, she reiterates that the victims have the free telephone number 016, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill, although it is advisable to delete it from the cell phone call log. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year and in 52 languages.
