González de Zárate believes that the region has also been harmed

Benidorm considers that the new TRAM between Denia and Alicante "does not support the province and has involved excessive spending"

The local government of Benidorm considers that the new TRAM that operates today between Alicante and Denia not only does not support the province but has involved excessive spending and has significantly harmed Benidorm during the execution of the tram and electrification works.

This has been stated by the Councilor for Works, José Ramón González de Zárate, who has lamented that "from the first moment the Generalitat has left us aside, has not responded to our requests and has put all possible inconveniences on us". The mayor went back to the line 9 tramway works and recalled "work began from Alicante to La Vila Joiosa and, instead of continuing to Benidorm as was logical, FGV decided to stop and undertake the works from Denia". This situation meant leaving Benidorm "in last place".

The complaints of the Councilor for Works also allude to the fact that FGV "has never paid attention" to the will of the city regarding the tramway of Line 9 as it passes through the municipality or the burying of the level crossing. "In the end, what we have is that the line in Benidorm has not been made underground and what has been buried is Beniardá avenue, instead of the railway line," González de Zárate specified.

The mayor, however, has also stated that the current Line 9 “is not a backbone because the journey between Alicante and Denia takes three hours to complete. In other words, more time is spent now than 50 years ago after having spent more than 150 million euros”.

In any case, González de Zárate has insisted that not only Benidorm has been harmed, but also other towns in the Marina Baixa "because the tramway project to Altea was done, but it has not come true." He also alluded to the fact that the project to save the Mascarat and Algar bridges remains to be carried out "which continues to harm this region."
Likewise, the mayor has stressed that the tram project for the line as it passes through Benidorm "has had to be done by the City Council because FGV has refused and has only inconvenienced us."

González de Zárate has elaborated that "after having the line abandoned for seven years now they sell it as an achievement when the reality is that it takes longer to make the journey than 50 years ago and all for an exclusively political interest."

In the opinion of the Benidorm councilor, it is striking that instead of continuing the tramway to Benidorm, the project was paralyzed and resumed from Denia and the Marina Alta "only because there are more municipalities governed by the Botànic parties, and from there the cumulative delay”. "It is a disaster that Puig sells to hype and cymbals, that it does not support anything and has involved excessive spending," González de Zárate reiterated, who lamented again "that they have never paid attention to the will of the city and we have found the burial of Beniardá avenue”. "They should look more for the citizens" the councillor concluded.
