This Monday, Benidorm City Council held a minute of silence to condemn the latest case of violence against women confirmed in recent hours in our country which has ended the life of a 67-year-old woman in the Alicante town of Villena. The silent rally took place at the door of City Hall and was led by the city's mayor, Toni Pérez. She has also been joined by the president of the Generalitat Valenciana, Carlos Mazón; the Minister of Innovation, Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Nuria Montes; the president of RTVE, Concepción Cascajosa; and the director of Studies and Technical Resources of this entity, José Luis Muñiz, who along with other members of the municipal Corporation wanted to join this condemnation concentration before participating in another event scheduled in the city.

The crime of this resident of Villena happened last Friday morning, when the woman was murdered in the family home at the hands of her partner, who later took her life. The subdelegate of the Government in the province of Alicante, Juan Antonio Nieves, has confirmed that this crime is part of the cases of gender violence, raising to 20 the number of women who have been murdered by their partners or ex-partners so far, this year and 1,264 victims of sexist violence since 2003 when the statistics began.

In addition to this case, the Government Delegation against Gender Violence has reported that another crime that occurred in Antequera (Málaga) is being investigated as a possible case of sexist violence that has resulted in the murder of a 50-year-old woman.

From the Department of Equality, headed by councillor Ángela Zaragozí, remember that Benidorm City Council has personnel specialized in gender violence to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened. Likewise, she reiterates that the victims have the free telephone number 016, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill, although it is advisable to delete it from the cell phone call log. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year and in 52 languages.
