Benidorm closes with a march a week of acts against gender violence

Benidorm City Council has closed this Sunday a week of events on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women with a citizen march called by the Association of Housewives in collaboration with the Department of Equality. The mayor, Toni Pérez, took part in the march, which departed at 6:00 pm from Plaza de Sus Majestades Reyes de España; the Councilor for Equality, Paquita Ripoll; members of the corporation; members of the Association of Housewives and neighbors who have wanted to show their rejection of this social scourge.

Before starting the march, two young people were in charge of reading a manifesto urging society to "wake up" and not keep silence in cases of gender violence. The manifesto also launched a message to all victims to report the attacks, and advocated "mutual respect" between men and women.

Then the march has begun, which has run through the streets Herrerías, Martínez Alejos and Alcoy until you reach the monument of Peace, located at the junction of the Europe and Mediterranean avenues. There, the mayor, the councilor of Equality and the president of the Housewives, Vini Perez, have deposited a crown with the name of the 44 women murdered so far this year in Spain, and who today would have joined a new victim in the Huesca town of Monzón. It is a 44-year-old woman who, according to the first police investigations, was murdered by her ex-partner this Sunday, coinciding with the International Day of Violence against Women.
