Benidorm celebrates Book Day with a reading of the Town Charter and aphorisms by various authors

Benidorm City Council celebrated Book Day today at Foietes Park. The event was organised by the Department of Historical and Cultural Heritage. Students of the 4th grade from Leonor Canalejas School, the mayor, Toni Pérez, and the local council members attended the event.
Book Day is commemorated on April 23rd. The celebration has moved forward "because the students will be on holiday on those dates."
On this occasion, the celebration began with a reading of the Carta de Poblament (Town Charter) by seven students from the school and continued with a reading of aphorisms from various authors by the councillors and students present. The celebration concluded with a storytelling session enjoyed by all the students attending Foietes Park.
The mayor, who alluded to the fact that three illustrious writers, Miguel de Cervantes, William Shakespeare, and Garcilaso de la Vega, died on April 23, 1616, reminded the students of the Leonor Canalejas School that May 8th marks "700 years since the founding of Benidorm, and there is a document, a deed that attests to this historic event, the Carta de Poblament." "That's why, today, in addition to reading aphorisms and reflections from various authors, we also remember the Carta Pobla," he concluded.
The event was held in front of the restored mural from the former Hotel Selomar, a mural that was restored by the City Council and now hangs on one of the perimeter walls of this large green area. The Councillor for Historical and Cultural Heritage, Ana Pellicer, emphasised that at these events, "we combine the very fact of bringing culture to young people and bringing it to the streets with the opportunity to enjoy spaces as attractive as this one."
