These grants complement those awarded by the Generalitat and last year they reached nearly 700 students

Benidorm allocates nearly 158,000 euros to subsidize school transportation to Salt de l'Aigua and IES Mediterrànea

Benidorm destina cerca de 158.000 euros a subvencionar el transporte escolar al Salt de l’Aigua y al IES Mediterrànea

Benidorm City Council is going to allocate around 158,000 euros to subsidise school transport for Infant, Primary and Secondary school students who attend the schools and institutes of the Salt de l’Aigua complex, as well as for students from the IES Mediterrània. The City Council also extends this aid to students of post-compulsory education which complements that granted by the Generalitat Valenciana.

The Councillor for Education, Maite Moreno, explained that this coming Monday the Local Government Board will approve the bases of these subsidies, the agreement with the concessionaire company of the urban bus, as well as the commitment to spend for the 2024/2025 academic year, which amounts to 157,963.93 euros.

Moreno recalled that “through these grants we encourage students who study at Salt de l’Aigua to travel to the complex by public transport, thereby reducing the flow of vehicles to the area and thus improving sustainability and mobility.”

The councillor explained that “these grants are aimed at students registered in Benidorm who are not included in the Generalitat’s bonus system, so between both administrations, we subsidise a very high percentage of students at the Salt de l’Aigua school complex and IES Mediterrània.”

As in previous years, these grants cover 100% of the cost of the service for students in the 2nd cycle of Early Childhood and Primary Education – so that these minors travel for free; while part of the price of the journey is subsidised for Secondary, Baccalaureate and cycle students, who must process the corresponding Municipal School Voucher at the City Hall.

Last year, 85 children from Infant and Primary School from the Gabriel Miró and Mestre Gaspar López schools benefited from these municipal grants, and around 600 students from Secondary and post-compulsory education from the five institutes in the city.

Moreno emphasised, “the firm commitment of the Benidorm City Council to Education and the educational community, promoting grants such as these for school transport or those aimed at psycho-pedagogical treatments, school reinforcement or the acquisition of school material for the 2nd cycle of Infant Education”.
