The City Council opens the application period for these grants this Monday, which will run until November 20th

Benidorm allocates 97,800 euros to provide scholarships for remedial classes for primary and secondary school students

Benidorm destina 98.700 euros para becar las clases de refuerzo educativo a alumnado de Primaria y ESO

Benidorm City Council's Department of Education will allocate €97,800 to a grant program to co-finance, for another year, the cost of remedial classes for children enrolled in the second and third cycles of Primary Education and Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO). The Local Governing Board announced the call for applications for this grant, which aims to "reduce the expenses families incur for tutoring at academies in our city so that their children can improve their academic performance," according to the councillor for the department, Maite Moreno.

Moreno announced that the application period for this grant will open this Monday, November 3, and run until November 20. He also explained that this amount of 97,800 euros will cover these reinforcement classes during the first semester of 2025, from January to June, and that with these funds, "we will be able to serve up to 326 students, who will receive a maximum amount of 50 euros per month."

As explained, the aim of this aid is "to ensure that no student falls behind in their academic progress and can continue receiving these reinforcement classes, in which the material covered in school is reviewed."

The councilwoman also noted that "this aid for academic reinforcement classes is in addition to the other subsidies that the Education Department offers each school year to support students in Benidorm and their families, such as those for school transportation, psycho-pedagogical support, or the purchase of school supplies for the second cycle of preschool."

As in previous years, the City Council will sign collaboration agreements with local tutoring centres as part of this program. The aid awarded to beneficiaries will be paid directly by the City Council to the collaborating academy where the student receives the remedial classes. Payments will be made in advance and in a single instalment.

The beneficiary students will be selected according to a specific profile and according to a priority order, within which the criterion of family income has significant weight, which must not exceed the maximum thresholds established in the Resolution of July 2025, of the Ministry of Education, Universities and Employment, by which the granting of school meal aid for the 2025-2026 school year is called.

Applications must be submitted electronically between November 3rd and 20th, attaching the completed application form along with all required documentation through Benidorm City Council's Electronic Office – www.sede.benidorm.org –, using the procedure available in the ‘Catalogue of Educational Services’ section. When applying, the minor's family must provide a photocopy of the applicant's ID card/Foreigner's Identity Number (DNI/NIE) and family record book; authorization to obtain financial data for the 2024 tax year from the Tax Agency; a quote from the chosen collaborating academy for tutoring; and a favorable report from the Guidance Team of the educational center where the student is enrolled, among other documents.

The terms and conditions, as well as the required documentation and requirements, can be found in the Education section of the City Council's website: https://benidorm.org.

The Councillor for Education has stated that, with these grants, “the City Council is helping to mitigate potential inequalities caused by a lack of knowledge acquisition and, at the same time, is supporting students with greater difficulties in achieving the academic objectives set for the school year.” She also highlighted that “this year, 2025, a total of 230 students, designated by the schools where they are enrolled, have benefited from these grants, an increase of almost 9% compared to the previous year.” At the same time, “we have also collaborated with 18 tutoring centers that registered as partners to provide these review classes, with a total investment in this grant program reaching €69,000.”

Finally, Maite Moreno indicated that "the application period for this new edition is open from today" and pointed out that the City Council "will not fail to meet the educational needs of any family in our city."
