The Executive Committee of Pedro Zaragoza Orts Chair held a work session this morning in which the Activities Report for 2021, the Competitive Intelligence reports and the successful Hospi-Tech-quality program were presented, as well as the reviews of initiatives developed as FUTUR-UA.

It was attended, together with the mayor of Benidorm Toni Pérez, by its members representing the University of Alicante, the Costa Blanca Tourist Board, Invat.tur and Turisme de la Generalitat, Hosbec and Visit Benidorm , of the Benidorm Tourism Foundation.

The Chair has organized in 2021 the International Congress of Health and Wellness Tourism (in April); the Conference on Hotel Sustainability and Social Responsibility in the hotel sector, in October; and the Destino 21 congress – I National Journalism and Tourism Congress (December), as well as the traditional collaboration with the University of Alicante for its Tourism Fair.

In the research section, during the past years the prospecting and capture of data have been carried out for a new edition of the Benidorm Tourist Barometer (BTB), the assessment and delivery of the TFG/TFM Tourism Awards of the University of Alicante, whose delivery ceremony is scheduled for next February 22 at the University itself and the development of the Intelligence Project for tourist destinations in the Valencian Community, focused on a Big Data analysis to prescribe competitive improvement actions. The Chair also developed a proposal for hygienic-sanitary conditions for the reactivation of national tourism last spring.

Also in 2021, it has organized continuous training courses and workshops and the 4th Edition of the Emprendo Turístico program, actively participating in teaching in the degrees of Tourism and TADE and in the Master's Degree in Tourism Management and Planning. The report highlights the success of the Hospi-tech-le launched as an educational online platform for hotel digital tools.

In the session, the economic report has been analyzed, which will be assessed in 2022 to attend to the program of activities that have been presented and that will be based on the organization of the XXI Benidorm International Tourism Forum and on deepening the teaching and research sections. seeking the scientific role of tourism in all its areas to help normalize tourism activity and the projection of Benidorm and Costa Blanca as top-level tourist destinations.

This year, priority will be given to running the Hospi-Tech-le Platform alone and special emphasis will be placed on the Management and Management of Intermediary Tourism Companies courses and the Entrepreneurship in Tourism program, maintaining the teaching collaboration in Trends and Innovation in the hotel sector and Strategic Management and Environmental Quality Management.

The research questions will be a vector of projection of the Chair towards the usual Benidorm Tourist Barometer (BTB) and the TFG/TFM awards with extension to other universities in works always focused on Benidorm and the Costa Blanca. Competitive Intelligence now becomes one of the main arguments for exploring markets and trends.

The program of activities will close in the near future with new proposals focused on planned urban planning, sustainability and the vertical city.

The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, thanked Pedro Zaragoza Orts Chair for its involvement in initiatives such as the Destino 21 congress and teaching and research tasks and highlighted the commitment of the University and the entities and organizations that makeup Pedro Zaragoza Chair Orts.
