The 350 swimmers will leave at 08.15 hours and must swim almost two nautical miles until they reach Mal Pas beach
XVIII Popular Swimming Crossing between the Island and the port of Benidorm
Something more than 350 swimmers participate this Sunday, August 25, in the XVIII Popular Swimming Crossing l'Illa-Port of Benidorm, a test organized by Benidorm City Hall with the collaboration with the Yacht Club. The Councilor for Sports, Mariló Cebreros, explained today at a press conference that "it is a consolidated test, of great success and that brings together swimmers from all over Spain", while "it has a great acceptance among local swimmers" .
Participants must swim the distance that separates the island from Mall Pas beach, about two nautical miles, the equivalent of about 3,700, in a test will start at 08.15 from the Island. The first swimmers will arrive about 45 minutes. Participants must complete the test in a maximum time of two hours.
Mariló Cebreros said that "we hope that this year the men's and women's records are broken, which are both of the year 2013", and that they are held by Aigor Aranguren (41'21 '') and Irati Mendía (46 ' 40 '').
With regard to the awards, they will be awarded in eleven categories: Absolute, Senior A - between 18 and 29 years old -, Senior B - between 30 and 39 years old, Veterans A - between 40 and 44 years old - Veterans B - between 45 and 49 years-, Veterans C –between 50 and 54 years-, Veterans D –between 55 and 59 years-, From 60 years, People with functional diversity, Local Swimmers and the Club with greater participation.
The collection of numbers will be made between 07.00 and 07.30 hours in the facilities of the Yacht Club, and during the test "all swimmers must use the location buoy".
In terms of safety, there will be 13 fast boats, 4 of them jet skis, as well as 33 kayaks. Cebreros wanted to thank the support to organize this test to Yacht Club, Red Cross, Local Beach Police, Excursiones Benidorm S.L., R.A. Benidorm, Scout Horizontes Group, Diving Stone, Coca Cola, Fruits F1 and IMED Levante, as well as the Comisió de Festes Majors Patronals and the Queens and Ladies of the local fiestas who will be in charge of trophy delivery.
