Among the actions carried out, paths have been cleaned and cleared, stone walls have been restored, wooden railings have been protected, and insect hotels have been installed

The twenty participants in the Employment Workshop carried out forestry maintenance and improvement work in Moralet Park

13 June 2025
Taller de Empleo

The twenty students participating in the "Benidorm Nature and Sport Employment Workshop" are carrying out various improvement projects in Moralet Park, as part of their training to redirect their future careers and better access employment. The Councillors for Employment and Environment, Mónica Gómez, and for Parks and Gardens, José Ramón González de Zárate, travelled to Benidorm's green zone this Friday to see the work being carried out firsthand and to exchange impressions with participants and teachers about the progress of this workshop.

The Councillor for Employment and Environment explained that among the projects the students are carrying out these days is the cleaning and clearing of paths. They have also restored dry-stone walls that had deteriorated over time and have protected them using this traditional construction technique popular throughout the Mediterranean basin, especially in the Valencian Community.

Another activity of the Employment Workshop was the protection of the wooden railings and handrails installed in El Moralet by priming them with a protective product against corrosion, insect attacks, and inclement weather.

Insect hotels have also been installed to provide shelter and safe breeding for arthropods, and nesting boxes for birds have been placed in the tops of the pine trees to preserve the biodiversity of this unique enclave in Benidorm.

For his part, the head of Parks and Gardens emphasised that "with these actions, we are further improving one of the main green lungs of our city, and we are also doing so by providing training and employment opportunities for unemployed people." González de Zárate noted that "the care and improvement of our parks is a constant focus of this government team."

‘Benidorm Natura i Esport’

To develop the "Benidorm Nature and Sport" Employment Workshop, the Benidorm City Council has hired twenty unemployed individuals for twelve months. The aim is to provide them with training aimed at improving their employability through two different training areas. Ten of these students are participating in the areas of "Auxiliary Activities in Forest Conservation and Improvement" and "Reforestation and Silvicultural Treatments," while the remaining ten are participating in the areas of "Auxiliary Operations in the Organisation of Activities and Operation of Sports Facilities" and "Bicycle Route Guidance."

The total cost of the workshop is €549,528, covered by a grant from the Valencian Employment and Training Service (LABORA). Participants will also receive the minimum interprofessional wage during the training period and will contribute to Social Security. The Employment Councilor specified that the workshop's curriculum "includes theoretical and practical training" so that "over twelve months, they will be able to put into practice the knowledge they acquire in the classroom, just as they are doing these days in El Moralet," a space that also received the 'Sendero Azul 2025' award this year from the Association for Environmental and Consumer Education (ADEAC).
