Benidorm City Council is going to allocate a sum of 15,000 euros to support the implementation of international cooperation projects in developing countries that have been carried out over the last year. The Local Government Board (JGL) has approved the basis of this call for subsidies, endowed with an amount of 15,000 euros to which local non-profit entities whose purpose is this line of work may apply. The Councilor for Social Welfare, Ángela Zaragozí, explained that through this aid “we reaffirm our commitment and our collaboration with local entities that carry out solidarity actions to facilitate the living conditions of the population in developing countries.”.

Specifically, this line of aid will have as possible beneficiaries local non-profit entities and associations that carry out activities related to the fight against poverty; the promotion and protection of the elderly, children, and the family; as well as the promotion and defense of human rights, and who have developed their projects between November 1, 2022 and October 30, 2023. 90% of the cost of the projects will be financed, up to a maximum of 3,000 euros.

Among the expenses that may be subsidized through this aid are the purchase of surgical and sanitary materials, machinery and construction materials and their transportation costs, as well as native labor, in the case of infrastructure construction; the support of homes, centers, or shelter institutions for women, children and/or the elderly; as well as the displacement of minors from impoverished countries or countries in war to spend temporary stays in Benidorm. Likewise, the rules establish that travel and maintenance of volunteer staff will not be considered eligible expenses, nor will all those that are not directly related to the subsidized project.

Among the requirements to obtain the aid, the bases state that the applicant entities must be registered in the Registry of Associations of Benidorm City Council; have a stable and active headquarters or delegation in the municipality; not be subject to any of the circumstances that prevent obtaining the status of the beneficiary of public subsidies; have sufficient structure to carry out the activities contemplated in this initiative; be up to date with tax obligations and with Social Security and the Benidorm City Council; have justified any subsidy granted by the City Council during the 2022 year; and, finally, have civil liability insurance and, where appropriate, volunteer insurance if you have people who carry out this type of activity.

The councillor of Social Welfare has explained that the subsidies can be requested from the day after their publication in the BOP and for 15 calendar days and that it will be a technical commission, designated by the City Council, who will resolve the call based on the Established assessment criteria, which are governed by the principles of publicity, transparency, competition, objectivity, equality, and non-discrimination.

Socio-health aid

On the other hand, Ángela Zaragozí has reported that this Wednesday the basis of the call to support the work carried out by local social and health entities has been published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Alicante, endowed with a total amount of 90,000 euros. With them, entities will be able to finance their projects up to a maximum of 12,000 euros. “Once the bases have been published, starting tomorrow the associations have a period of 15 days to present their proposals and be able to obtain municipal financing,” concluded the Welfare councilor.
