The sixth edition of the short film festival kicks off this Saturday, April 2, with 4 sections, new editions of the Screenplay and Shortpitch contests, and complementary activities

Skyline Benidorm Film Festival will be present at Madrid Film Academy

29 March 2022
Skyline Film Festival

Just four days before the start of its sixth edition, the Skyline Benidorm Film Festival has been presented today at Madrid Film Academy; an appointment in which the director of the contest, Beatriz Hernández, and the Councilor for Culture, Jaime Jesús Pérez, have participated, and in which it has been highlighted that the 2022 edition is once again a record edition with more than 450 short films presented, and 260 projects, between scripts and 'short pitch'. In addition to the director of the event and the councillor of Culture, the director of Madrid Film Festival, Sonia Bautista, and Luis Ivars, academic and jury of this edition of Skyline, also took part in the presentation.

After the presentation, the mayor assured us that "Benidorm is cinema, whether in short or long format, and that is why, since its first edition, this Skyline Benidorm Film Festival has fit in so extraordinarily well in the city, diversifying and enhancing the cultural offer and monopolizing the attention of the film industry and the public for a week”.

Pérez has highlighted "the great work that Beatriz Hernández and the entire festival team carry out edition after edition"; and has invited "fans of short films and audiovisuals, in general, to come to the different exhibitions that are scheduled from April 2 to 9 and participate in the talks that arise with the creators after the screenings, an opportunity that enriches the Skyline experience even more.” Access to all projections and activities are free until full capacity is reached.

And "to those who do not have the opportunity to be in Benidorm and enjoy the experience, added the mayor-, remind them that in this sixth edition the Skyline continues to have the collaboration of Fimin, so, as they have advanced from the organization, everyone who is out of town will be able to enjoy a part of the programming”. Specifically, the platform will screen the short films of the National Section.

Awards and sections

Skyline Benidorm Film Festival has gone from being a provincial sample to having an official national section, with three different prizes for Fiction, Documentary and Animation, in addition to a European section and adds a new Ibero-American section in this 2022 edition. Each of these sections has its corresponding prizes and always with projections of cinema quality.

The programming of the Official Section will be focused from April 6 to 8, and will be screened at the Fundación Mediterráneo Auditorium, where we will find a good assortment of titles, among others, the winners of the Goya for best fiction short film 'Tótem loba' and best animated short film 'El Mono'; In addition, in the rest of the short films, we will find a very varied theme: animation, comedy, black humour, thriller... A very complete program that will leave us glued to our seats.

Within the European Section, there are films from Turkey, Sweden, the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic and France, with some of the most interesting productions, where diverse topics will be treated, from black comedy to social relations, in a way that will not leave us indifferent. This European program will be screened on Sunday, April 3 at the IMF cinemas in Finestrat.

And in the Ibero-American Section, we will have representation from Chile and Argentina, with four short films that will take us on a trip to the other side of the ocean. We will be able to enjoy this tour of Latin America on Wednesday, April 6, at the Fundación Mediterráneo Auditorium.

In the Social Section, we will find six short films that deserve to be seen for reflection. We will screen this section on Tuesday, April 5, also at the Fundación Mediterráneo Auditorium.
Skyline Benidorm Film Festival will award eight prizes in the different sections: Prize for the best national fiction short film, best national animated short film, best national documentary short film, best Valencian short film, best European short film, best Ibero-American short film, best short film script and best project. of National Short Pitch. In addition to the financial prizes, trophies will also be awarded for the best film with a social theme, the best direction, the best production, the best performance, an audience award and a PNR jury award for the best film.

Script contest and 'Shortpitch'

Likewise, the short film scriptwriting contest has become a benchmark, reaching in this edition more than 200 works from all over Spain and Latin America, attracted by a prize that has not stopped increasing and that this year amounts to 1,000 euros.

Another bet that is maintained and consolidated is the Short pitch, an event dedicated to the film industry, in which producers with projects in the development phase participate. The winner will receive a prize valued at 12,000 euros to make their short film, with the collaboration of different providers.

Tribute to Roberto Pérez Toledo and other activities

Skyline Benidorm Film Festival opens the festival paying homage to a 23-year career in which "breaking down barriers on disability and diversity have been his key in Roberto's filmography, encouraging other creators and promoting a social dialogue that has crossed the screens.

The tribute to Roberto Pérez Toledo will be held on Saturday, April 2, at 12 noon, in the Fundación Caja Mediterráneo Auditorium, and a selection of his most outstanding short films will be screened.

In addition, within the Skyline Benidorm Film Festival, you can enjoy not only the screenings of the official section but also other actions aimed at the industry, as well as activities aimed at the youngest, such as a plasticine stop motion workshop, by Pablo Llorens and a dubbing workshop, led by Francesc Fenollosa.
