The 'Cine para todosl' initiative will offer screenings with self-descriptions for people with visual disabilities

The Skyline Benidorm Film Festival presents inclusive new features at FITUR

24 January 2024
El Skyline Benidorm Film Festival presenta novedades inclusivas en FITUR

The Skyline Benidorm Film Festival has presented today within the framework of the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) the novelties of its eighth edition, among which a pioneering inclusive initiative called 'Cinema for All' stands out. An initiative that has been announced by the director of the contest, Beatriz Hernández, and the first deputy mayor, Ana Pellicer, and that marks a milestone in terms of accessibility, to promote the inclusion of people with visual disabilities, collaborating closely with ONCE to offer screenings with audio descriptions and adapted activities.

Pellicer has highlighted that this festival, which will be held from April 13 to 20, “grows and consolidates a little more in each edition as a benchmark in the short film sector”, while “continuing to work year after year for offering new features and expanding its offering.” The first deputy mayor has stressed that, throughout this first day of Fitur, “the importance that within the tourism sector and the destinations themselves we give to inclusion and accessibility has been proven.”

“It is no coincidence – Ana Pellicer has stressed – that within this festival there is a new section dedicated and aimed at inclusion, at making ‘Cinema for all’ as its name indicates and, therefore, culture also accessible to all.”

For her part, Beatriz Hernández, director of the festival, has expressed her commitment to accessibility in the field of culture: "We believe that it is important to understand the needs of people with disabilities and raise awareness in society about the value of making any "type of activity that is developed is accessible to all people."

Hernández has highlighted the importance of addressing accessibility “from the beginning of the project and not as a later measure, to guarantee an optimal result.”

About the "Cine para todos" conference, the person in charge of the Skyline Film Festival has indicated that "not only do we improve the quality of life of people with disabilities, but we also get more audiences to come to the movie theatre," after which has highlighted the intention to turn the Skyline Benidorm Film Festival “into a benchmark for adapted cultural tourism in Spain, attracting more tourists, especially from the Valencian Community.”

Skyline Benidorm Film Festival has turned into a reference project in the film sector at a national level. The director has highlighted the commitment to diversity, creativity and the search for excellence, integrating the voices of professionals in the sector.

Beatriz Hernández has concluded that this project “contributes to the dissemination of cultural and social values. Skyline Benidorm Film Festival is a brand committed to cultural dissemination and social commitment."
