The work, which the water concessionaire assumes and that includes the renovation of services and pavement, will be executed in 12 weeks, although the bulk will end before Easter

The renewal of the hydraulic network of Aigües street begins, which will improve the drainage of water from the ravines

05 February 2020
Comienza la renovación de la red hidráulica de la calle Aigües que mejorará el drenaje de aguas procedentes de los barrancos

This week the renovation works of the hydraulic infrastructure network of Aigües street begin, with which the collection and drainage of water from the ravines will be improved when rainfall events occur. The Councilor for Works and Water Cycle, José Ramón González de Zárate, explained that “with this action we will be able to capture those first waters, which are the ones that go down with the highest concentration of waste and dirt, and derive them directly and effectively to the network of residuals thus avoiding that they reach the beach ”. "In this way - he clarified - in case of very heavy rains only natural and clean waters will reach the beach."

The action is valued at 443,691.23 euros, fully assumed by the water concession company (Hidraqua). In addition to the remote control system for water collection and diversion, the project also includes the replacement of drinking water and sewerage pipes; as well as the renewal of the connections and discharge chambers of the rain collector that was installed a few months ago.

De Zárate has informed that “the work is going to be executed in 12 weeks, although it has been planned so that the bulk of the work is finished before Easter, to avoid inconvenience and affections to tourists and companies in the first great holiday appointment of the year".

The councillor has indicated that "this work is not going to be limited only to the subsoil." In fact, "as we have been doing in the last four and a half years each time we renew the hydraulic infrastructures of a road, we take advantage of this action to also improve the urban scene, services and aesthetics of Aigües street." Specifically, “we are going to change the street lighting, to renew the asphalting, and to make the sidewalk totally accessible using, in addition, the same circular stoneware pavement of Paseo de Poniente and that already looks also in Park of Elche, in that case in white and three shades of blue ”.

The head of Works and Water Cycle recalled that "last summer we already invested 60,000 euros in Aigües street, through a grant from the Provincial Council of Alicante." This work consisted of “the expansion and improvement of the drainage network to avoid flooding in this area of Poniente in the event of heavy rains. "Then we already anticipated that this work was the first phase of a broader action: the renovation of the rest of the water infrastructure of the street and its paving, which is exactly what we are doing now," he added.
