Public Space plants 400 trees in recent months, which will be able to absorb more than 55 tons of CO2 per year

The Department of Public Space has planted around 400 trees in different parts of the city in the last three months that will help offset the carbon footprint. According to the data offered by the mayor, Toni Pérez, "the planted specimens will absorb more than 55 tons of CO2 per year."
Pérez explained that "the plantations have been carried out both in the urban fabric and in the city's parks, so that in addition to the environmental benefit, by resulting in cleanliness and air quality, this plantation also contributes to generating more kind”.
Specifically, since last November and until now, new tree specimens have been planted in Roma Street, the surroundings of In Tempo building and the new skyscraper towers in Poniente, and Beniardá and 9 de Octubre avenues, with the planting of tree-lined on Avenida de la Estación and Calle Callosa d'En Sarrià. Depending on the area, such as in Foietes, Séquia Mare and Rincón de Loix parks, as well as in Plaza Prelado Antonio Bayona and Calle Amadorio, "specimens of a certain size" have been chosen, which have trunks with a diameter of more than 40 centimetres. In the different streets and avenues indicated, specimens of 'Melia azedarach' -known as Cinamomo-, 'Tipuana Tupi', 'Jacaranda mimosifolia' and 'Morus Alba' -mulberry- have been chosen; while in the developing area of ​​Poniente, 'Palmeras washingtonia', 'Cycas revolutas' and different native species of shrubs have been chosen.
These shrubby species, Toni Pérez specified, "have been planted on the less steep slopes, using germination meshes to prevent land losses or dragging in times of rain or at times of strong winds." In addition, these areas have been equipped with drip and sprinkler irrigation systems.
The mayor has reported that "with the planting of these 400 tree specimens we are advancing in the strategy of compensating our carbon footprint, covering from the outset and amply the CO2 emissions involved in holding the Journalism and Tourism Congress in December, which It was the commitment we adopted with all the participants and attendees”.
Pérez stressed that "this compensation strategy complements our main action and commitment, which is the reduction of CO2 emissions, something that the City Council has been working on for years with different measures such as the renovation of lighting with 'led' technology, the commitment to hybrid vehicles in the municipal fleet, pedestrian streets, the creation of park-and-ride car parks and the promotion of the use of public transport”.
