The Socialist group requests that the information phase of the ZBE be reactivated until all the platform's incidents are resolved

PSOE is demanding increased staffing to handle the influx of inquiries about the low-emission zone

03 July 2025
El PSOE reclama que se refuerce el personal para atender la avalancha de consultas por la zona de bajas emisiones

The Socialist municipal group has demanded that the PP government team, in light of the avalanche of in-person inquiries at City Hall requesting information about the Low Emission Zone (LEZ), reinforce the citizen service staff and extend the opening hours as much as possible. Socialist spokesperson Cristina Escoda stated that the situation is "unsustainable" on two counts: the staff providing information is minimal and overwhelmed by the large number of people requesting information. Furthermore, it generates frustration and discontent among citizens who queue for hours and ultimately cannot receive assistance. "There is only one person hired to handle the long lines that form in the City Hall lobby every day, and they cannot even move from their post during the hours they are providing information," she stated.

Escoda recalled that the information phase ended on Monday, June 30th, and that the City Council is scheduled to begin issuing fines for violating traffic restrictions as of yesterday. In this regard, the councilor noted that although the Mobility Councilor described the first day of the official entry into force of the LEZ as normal, "what we experienced yesterday and today at City Hall was absolute chaos, with queues far exceeding those recorded during the information phase." "We believe the situation has been exacerbated by the arrival of many citizens with second homes in the city right at the beginning of July, who have many questions about the low-emission zone and the permits they need to process," she emphasised.

Likewise, Socialist Party members have warned that various issues persist when processing permits through the online platform and app, such as entering license plates from outside Spain, attaching documents, or filling out forms, as the system crashes. "Although the platform has been active since February, it is still not working properly, which is also generating many complaints," she noted.
For all these reasons, the Socialist leader has proposed to Toni Pérez's government that the in-person help and information service regarding the Low Emission Zone be strengthened and that the information period be reactivated until all the issues are resolved.

No air conditioning in the Town Hall

The Socialist Group has denounced that the Town Hall has been without air conditioning for three years, which is making it difficult for municipal staff to work due to the high temperatures they have to endure. Furthermore, the long waits that citizens have to endure to be served at the Low Emission Zone information point, the census, or the registry are even more uncomfortable. For this reason, Escoda has demanded that the mayor take the complaints of municipal staff seriously and fix the air conditioning system as soon as possible. "It is unacceptable that workers have to bring their fans from home to be able to endure the heat in this department of the Town Hall," he emphasised.
