The local government explains to the Neighborhood Council the terms and budget of the work which was approved in May

The Poniente walkway, in the bidding phase

21 June 2022
Consejo Vecinal

The project to repair the pedestrian walkway on Poniente beach is already in the bidding phase, as explained today by the Councilor for Beaches. Mónica Gómez, to the members of the Neighborhood Council who have met today in the Plenary Hall of the City Council.

The meeting of the Neighborhood Council has been chaired by the first deputy mayor, Ana Pellicer, and during it all the details about this action have been explained. Thus, the neighbours have known that the term of execution of the works, once they are awarded, will be less than a year, and they cover an area of about 5,400 square meters and that the budget will amount to 1.6 million euros.

Gómez has specified to the members of the Council that the project was approved a month ago and that now the times will be marked by the Contracting department. "The work will begin when it is awarded" she has detailed.

However, the councillor of Beaches has recalled that the City Council "has been forced to assume a competence that does not correspond to it because both the Generalitat and the central government have delayed repairs." Mónica Gómez has indicated that she already has the authorization of the General Directorate of Coasts "but we are going to have to assume an economic amount that corresponds to other administrations".

Another item on the agenda was related to the loss of the Blue Flag on Poniente beach. In this matter, Gómez has reiterated that "it was a specific analysis" and has insisted that the beach is, like the rest, "in perfect condition and with the highest quality standards." In addition, she has continued, "it has all the acknowledgements of quality of water, sand and services thanks to the constant improvement and the continuous effort of the City Council". Gómez has concluded by pointing out that "it seemed to us an unfair decision, which we do not share and that is how we transferred it to the Ministry at the time."
