The project reaches 1.6 million euros, financed by the City Council, and will be completed by the end of this month
The new promenade from Poniente beach will reach Paseo de Colón
The new pedestrian walkway from Poniente Beach will reach Paseo de Colón, expanding the area occupied by the previous one by more than 300 linear meters. This was reported today by the mayor, Toni Pérez, who together with the acting councilors of Urban Scene and Beaches, José Ramón González de Zárate and Mónica Gómez, visited the beach to see how the works are progressing, which will be completed by the end of this month.
Toni Pérez explained that "this project contemplated the complete replacement of the original walkway, which after 15 years in service was in deplorable condition, which affected both the image of our Poniente beach and the comfort of users ”. However, "when tackling this project we have been more ambitious and we have chosen to extend the walkway and make it reach Paseo de Colón, improving the facilities of the Poniente beach and gaining more accessibility in this stretch of more than 300 meters".
The mayor recalled that "the City Council assumed the cost of this project due to the refusal of the Generalitat Valenciana and the Central Government to finance this action, which is valued at 1,672,457.57 euros." It is "an investment as important as it is necessary and that will last over time since a high-quality material has been chosen, greater resistance and durability than the original".
Specifically, "technological wood has been chosen, a stable flooring that resists intensive use and the action of weather and climate much better, and that to the human eye is practically identical to natural wood, so we gain in performance while maintaining the aesthetics”. In addition since it is not a fixed installation, "the walkway can be removed with some ease when cleaning the beach has to be done."
Toni Pérez confirmed that "the work to replace and install the new walkway is progressing at a good pace and, barring unforeseen events, they will be finished at the end of June, coinciding with the start of the high season, so our Poniente beach will show off its best face at the start of the summer, just as we promised”.
The works began at the beginning of March and are being carried out by the company Levantina Ingeniería y Construcción SL.
