The 28th edition of the Costa Blanca Cup returns this year to pre-pandemic figures and will reach participation of 3,810 players from 265 teams from 15 countries on five continents. They will be joined by the technicians and coaches of each club.
The sports event was presented this morning in El Torrejó, with the presence of Mayor Toni Pérez, the Councilor for Sports, Mariló Cebreros, and the CEO of Tour Sport, the organizing company, Fernando Brotons, who has announced that 109 clubs will compete, of which 36 will be foreigners. Of the foreigners, France is the country that contributes the most teams, with 23.
This edition will also have eight venues: Benidorm, Altea, La Nucía, La Vila Joiosa, Polop, Finestrat, Calpe and Benissa. Between all of them, the 600 matches scheduled between July 3 and 9 will be played.
The matches will be played on 27 pitches, 20 football pitches and 7 futsal pitches. All the participants in the Costa Banca Cup have sports accident insurance with unlimited assistance and in all the facilities there will be an ambulance service and medical technicians.
As in recent editions, the tournament is committed to 'inclusive football', for players with intellectual disabilities, an aspect that was awarded in 2021 in the football and futsal modalities in the Emprén Esport awards of the Trinidad Alfonso Foundation.
In terms of tourism, Brotons has indicated that the organization “has already reserved 24,000 overnight stays, to which are added hints from family members that there will be during the week to coincide with their children's matches. All this generates a great return that is economically beneficial for the city”.
This year, without restrictions, the inaugural parade will return, which will take place on Monday, July 4 at 9:30 p.m. and will run along the Avenida del Mediterráneo. There will also be the coaches' match on Wednesday 6, the leaders' dinner on Thursday 7 and the traditional football party on Friday 8 at 9:30 p.m. in the Julio Iglesias auditorium.
This year, the Costa Blanca Cup Inclusive will also include football for the blind (remaining visual), which will be played in the futsal category.
Fernando Brotons recalled that throughout the history of this competition, more than 5,000 teams and more than 70,000 players from 76 countries have taken part in it, which in this time has generated more than one million overnight stays in the hotels of the Shire. "The international character is the lever that allows us to continue growing" stated Brotons.
Mayor Toni Pérez, for his part, has stressed Benidorm's "very clear commitment" to this competition, of which he has said "it is already very close to its best figures" and that, therefore, "it is an important injection economy for the tourism sector and the city”.
The mayor has described the organization as "perfect", which implies, he has affirmed, "the anticipation of a new success of one of the most important tournaments in the world in instilling values in the youngest".
Pérez has insisted that the event is “the most important in the region, not only because of the overwhelming economic data but because of the participants. More than 3,800 creatures who come to spend days of coexistence in Benidorm, the region and also the Marina Alta”.
Finally, the first mayor has highlighted the fact that it is a "global tournament" because it "includes more and more people who practice the beautiful game and break many mental barriers." In that sense, he has cited "what the organization did with women's football since the first edition or with the Costa Blanca Inclusive in 2015, which is setting the standard in other competitions."
