This measure will be implemented, along with adjustments in other roads, next January 3 from 08:00 hours

Mobility will reverse permanently the direction in Maravall street to give way to downtown traffic

29 December 2017
Movilidad invertirá de forma definitiva la dirección de la calle Maravall para dar una salida al tráfico del centro de Benidorm

The councilman of Mobility, José Ramón González de Zárate, has announced today the final and definitive traffic changes that will be implemented in Benidorm due to the pedestrianization of Tomás Ortuño Street. According to the councilman "the most important change is the direction of Maravall Street, which will be a road up from San Pedro Street to the crossroads of Tomás Ortuño with Uranus, where a traffic light intersection is located."

The measure is intended to compensate for the fact that Tomás Ortuño, by increasing its pedestrian stretch, could no longer continue to expel upstream traffic. Besides, De Zárate explained that linked to this pedestrianization are other "important changes in traffic in the center of Benidorm, such as those that will be applied in Rosal, Buen Pastor and Jilguero streets.

The councilor recognized that "it is a revolutionary change, but it has been studied very well by the Mobility Council, as well as by municipal traffic experts and external technicians," adding that "we are convinced that it will be a positive step to provide solutions to traffic in our urban area ".

These measures will be implemented next January 3 from 08:00 hours, once the end of the year celebrations have passed.

Other changes

The Department of Mobility has already made changes in recent days in the center due to the aforementioned pedestrianization work by Tomás Ortuño. Since December 20, the direction of the circulation of Mercurio Street has been reversed to improve its connection with Jaime I. From that same day, Plutón Street became the entrance route from Jaime I to Mercurio. Once on Mercury, vehicles can go down to Limones street to connect with Maravall when the aforementioned changes take effect on January 3.
