Minute of silence in Benidorm for the young woman murdered in Parla (Madrid)

The Benidorm City Council observed a minute of silence this afternoon for the woman who lost her life in Madrid last Friday, July 1, after the confirmation, yesterday afternoon, by the Government Delegation against Gender Violence as a sexist crime.

The mayor, Toni Pérez, together with the councillor of Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, led the silent rally in which members of the three political groups represented in the consistory participated.

The crime took place on June 30, in a park in the Madrid town of Parla, where the 18-year-old victim was allegedly stabbed by her ex-partner, a 20-year-old man who later self-harmed and who is currently in police custody. Because of her injuries, the young woman died in hospital the next day.

24 women have already been murdered by their partners or ex-partners so far in 2022. 1,154 since 2003, the year in which the statistics began to be computed.

The Department of Equality insists, once again, that the City Council has personnel specialized in gender violence, trained to provide advice to any woman, a sea completely free service addition, it reiterates that women who need it, have the free telephone number 016, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill, although it is advisable to eliminate it from the mobile call log. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year and in 52 languages.
