Minute of silence in Benidorm for a new sexist crime in Cádiz

09 November 2021
Igualdad

This noon a minute of silence has been observed in front of the main door of Benidorm Town Hall in memory of the latest victim of sexist violence in our country. With the mayor, Toni Pérez, and the councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, at the head, councilors, public workers and neighbors have shown their strongest rejection of this social scourge.
Last Sunday, a 37-year-old woman was allegedly murdered with a knife by her ex-partner, a 44-year-old man, at her home in the town of San Roque (Cádiz). The murderer was later arrested and placed at the disposal of the judicial authority.
So far in 2021, 37 women have been murdered; 1,118 since 2003. Sexist violence has also left 24 minors orphans. For this reason, the Department of Equality insists that technical staff and specialists in gender violence are available to any woman who feels threatened. Likewise, it is reiterated the advisability of using, in any dangerous situation, the telephone number 016 that attends to victims 365 days a year in 52 different languages.
