Minute of silence in Benidorm in memory of the woman murdered by her husband in La Coruña

21 August 2018
Minuto de silencio en Benidorm en memoria de la mujer asesinada por su marido en La Coruña

Benidorm has once again kept a minute of silence at the gates of the City Hall to repudiate sexist violence and in memory of the last victim, a 50-year-old woman murdered by her husband in the town of Cabana de Bergantiños in Coruña. The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, and the councillor of Equality, Paquita Ripoll, have joined representatives of political groups and municipal workers to show their rejection of this social scourge.

The Government Delegation confirmed yesterday as a new case of gender violence the events that took place last Sunday in Cabana de Bergantiños (A Coruña), where a 56-year-old man killed his 50-year-old woman with two shots. The couple, who have two children of legal age, was in the process of separation. The man was arrested by police on Sunday after a warning call was made by shooting in the 112.

With this, there are already 26 women who have lost their lives so far in 2018 due to gender violence in Spain, while the number of minors who have been orphaned rises to 15. From the Department of Equality reminds the importance of reporting any evidence of sexist violence through the telephone number 016, toll-free telephone number against gender violence that leaves no trace on the telephone bill.
