The Ministry of Health launches the new digital code for dispensing medicines in pharmacies in Benidorm

The Ministry of Health has chosen Benidorm to launch the new digital code for dispensing medicines, which has been implemented today in the 801 pharmacies in the province of Alicante. This code replaces the current coupon used to seal medicines and allows pharmacies not only to reduce the administrative burden but also to increase the traceability of the drug, thereby increasing patient safety, since in the event of an alert it will be possible to know which patient has been dispensed the medicine and to act immediately.
The mayor, Toni Pérez, and the councillor for Health, Ana Pellicer, attended the presentation of this system in a pharmacy on Avenida Jaime I, where the councillor for the area, Marciano Gómez, argued that this new system facilitates an “agile and dynamic” operation that “guarantees safety in the prescription and traceability of medicines”. Furthermore, it is “sustainable” and involves “an economic saving of 4.7 million euros for all pharmacies in the sales process.”
Finally, the minister stressed that the Valencian Community is a pioneer in the implementation of the digital code system.
