Júcar Hydrographic Confederation gives the green light to the work of Sequia Mare Park Youth Hostel

Benidorm City Council will be able to immediately start the process for the construction of one of the main works of EDUSI of BENIDORM, the Youth Hostel in Parque de la Sequia Mare, an emblematic construction for the city, and of enormous alternatives of use for the citizens and the tourist population of Benidorm.

The operation that is described in EDUSI Benidorm, "will include Adaptation of Sequia Mare Park with an interpretation center of the customs of the region, focusing on the mountains that surround Benidorm, to promote multicultural coexistence and camping, and enhancement of Sequia Mare as an ethnographic-cultural and tourist asset”.

The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, has indicated that "it is an intervention of great impact in the city, included in the EDUSI OT6 Objectives, to promote the rehabilitation and enhancement of public assets, opening them up to tourism and citizen use.

The works, once the bidding and award processes have been completed, will have a duration of 10 months, and a cost of 2,177,500.00 euros, of which the European Union contributes 720,000 euros through the European Regional Development Fund. (ERDF).

The iconic design of the Youth Hostel is perfectly integrated into the environment in which it is located, the Parque de la Sequia Mare, making the existing paths in the park continue through the building itself. In this future hostel, the public uses (dining room, toy library, cafeteria, etc.) are directly related to the camping area, and the accommodation area is raised on a second floor adapted to the environment to maintain the privacy of the people who they stay in it.

In the opinion of the mayor, the Youth Hostel is “one of the most important infrastructures of EDUSI and is linked above all to young people”. The installation is "in full harmony" with the concept of the park that, Pérez recalled, "was born with a great sports and cultural component linked to Séquia Mare, a key infrastructure in the repopulation of Benidorm from 1666".

With regard to the project, the mayor of Benidorm has highlighted that little by little "we are providing new investments to a park that many people already enjoy every day and we are generating leisure spaces for the young people of Benidorm and other parts of our geography. ”. Similarly, he added, the creation of the Interpretation Center "expands the cultural offer of the city".

Toni Pérez has also underlined that the project is "admirable" from a sustainable point of view "and is perfectly integrated into the park itself" and has remarked that "it complies with the Tourism, Leisure and Hospitality Law" and that it will become " one more alternative for the stay in Benidorm”.
