Hundreds of people take to the streets on Good Friday to experience the Holy Burial Procession in Benidorm

The traditional General Procession of the Holy Burial brought hundreds of people to the streets of Benidorm last night to experience one of the city's most crowded Holy Week events, in which all six brotherhoods and fraternities participate on Good Friday night. The procession set off at 8:30 p.m. from the Church of Sant Jaume i Santa Anna and continued until midnight through the most central streets, including Mayor, Alameda del Mayor Pedro Zaragoza, Los Ángeles, Pintor Lozano, Ricardo, Martínez Alejos, Paseo de la Carretera, and Santa Faz, before returning to Sant Jaume Square. Along the way, the procession drew applause from the public as the images passed by.
The Mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, and the Councilor for Festivals, Mariló Cebreros, led the institutional representation, accompanied by numerous members of the Municipal Council. Senator Agustín Almodóbar also participated; and regional representatives José Ramón González de Zárate and Manuel Pérez Fenoll, along with the president of the Brotherhood of Our Lady of Sorrows, Estela Canales, and representatives of the rest of the local Holy Week organizations and several parishes in the city.
The Sacramental Brotherhood of Last Supper was the first to march, followed by the float of the Brotherhood of the Prayer of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane; the Virgin and Christ from the Royal Brotherhood of Our Lady of Hope and Peace and Our Father Jesus of Health and Humility; the Brotherhood of Our Father Jesus of Nazareth, which, in addition to Christ Carrying the Cross, also brought out the float of La Convocatoria and the image of the "Christ of the Ropes," as well as a large group of children reenacting scenes from the Passion; the Brotherhood of the Most Holy Christ of Forgiveness and Good Death; the image of the Recumbent Christ; and, finally, the Brotherhood of Our Lady of Sorrows.
The Holy Week events in Benidorm conclude tomorrow, Easter Sunday, when Masses will be celebrated in all the city's parishes. In addition, at 8 a.m., the Procession of the Encounter between the Virgin Mary and the Risen Christ will depart from the Church of Sant Jaume i Santa Anna. The "Ambaixà de l'Àngel" (Angel's Encounter) will be held in the Alameda, led by Carmen Guillén Campos.
