Horizontes scouts celebrate their 40 years of activities in Benidorm

29 September 2018
Los scouts de Horizontes celebran sus primeros 40 años de actividades en Benidorm

Horizontes Scout Group of Benidorm has started this morning the 2018-2019 academic course of activities, with a meeting in the early morning in La Aigüera Park. From there, the children and youth collective has headed to Filipinas Avenue, in whose gardens the monolith of the fleur de lys is placed, icon of the international scout movement, installed in commemoration of the 'Camporee', or national camp of the Association Scouts Baden Powel of Spain, of 1982 that gathered more than 5,000 scouts from all over the country in Benidorm.

With the passage of the years and adverse weather conditions the plaque had been lost. For this reason, Benidorm Town Hall, and at the request of Horizontes Group, the monolith and the installation of a new one that recall the 36th anniversary of the meeting and the 40th birthday of the group have been proceeded. The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez (scout for many years, member of Horizontes and participant in the 'Camporee' in 1982), along with the councilor for Youth, Ana Pellicer, and the head of Urban Scene, José Ramón González de Zárate, have accompanied Horizontes Group in an act that has highlighted the important associative, cultural and social role played by the Scout movement in Benidorm and its region.
