Medio centenar de agentes de la Policía Nacional reforzará la seguridad en Benidorm durante el verano

The delegate of the Government has highlighted in Board of Security that the crime has fallen 11.7% in the last quarter

Also the Local Police is reinforced with 19 agents, and it is incorporated in the protocol of follow-up to the victims of violence of sort

The mayor, Toni Pérez, and the Government delegate in the Valencian Community, Juan Carlos Moragues, today presided over the Security Council of the City of Benidorm, in which have participated the responsible of National Police of Alicante, Local Police and Civil Guard .

One of the topics that has been discussed at this meeting is the Ministry of the Interior's Safe Tourism Plan, under which Benidorm's staff will be strengthened with staff from the different Police Intervention Units (UIP) and Cavalry, Which will monitor the areas with the highest tourist influx of the city. The arrival of the police intervention units, with 30 agents, is expected in the coming days. In total, the reinforcement of the Benidorm Police Station will be more than fifty agents between the UIP, Cavalry and students.

Particular attention will be paid to those events of great concentration such as the different music festivals that host the city, the beach areas with the highest concentration of tourists, as well as the leisure areas of the city.

Moragues said after finalizing the Security Council that "greater coordination between the Security Forces is vital for the prevention of crime, both small-scale and theft and robbery, to that of organized gangs." Likewise, the police reinforcement during the summer shows "the commitment of the Government of Spain" with Benidorm and with maintaining "the perception of security" that tourists have. In fact, security is "the second motive that wields" tourists when asked why they have chosen for their holidays Spain, Valencia and Benidorm.

The mayor, for his part, thanked the reinforcement of National Police and Civil Guard during the high season, and explained that also the Local Police has increased its workforce. Thus, the 10 temporary agents who joined Holy Week and the "five agents on secondment" who are already reinforcing the workforce, will soon add another four agents also on secondment.

Pérez has indicated that it is "a reinforcement of 19 agents, not only for the summer period, but that will be at full performance during the summer", for which more than 1,000 extraordinary services of the Local Police have been programmed.

Crime continues going down

The Government delegate highlighted the good work of the State Security Forces and Bodies, which in coordination with the Local Police have achieved in the last quarter of the year to reduce crime rates by -11.7%. From January to March, 1,200 criminal offenses were registered in the city of Benidorm, compared to 1,359 registered in the same period of 2016. According to data from the Ministry of Interior, there is also a reduction of -23.6 in thefts and a -23 , 3 in thefts with violence and intimidation.

In Alicante during the first quarter of the year there were 21,168 criminal offenses, so those produced in Benidorm represent 5.7% of the province of Alicante.

Despite these good data from the last quarter from the police station of the National Police of Benidorm continues to work in the fight against crime. Gender violence

Also during the meeting the collaboration protocol was agreed to "integrate the Local Police of Benidorm in the procedure of integral follow-up to the victims of gender violence" based on the collaboration agreement signed last May 25 between the secretary of Security State of the Ministry of Interior, and the mayor. A collaboration that, according to Moragues, "demonstrates the sensitivity of the City Council with this scourge that surrounds us" and that "will make assistance to victims of gender violence better."

Alercops

At the same time, the Government delegate has asked for citizen collaboration to report to 091 or 062 any criminal offense. It can also be done through the platform Alercops, an APP that allows you to communicate with the National Police or the Civil Guard just by sending a message. By the middle of July the application will have new possibilities such as being able to send messages in up to 100 languages or have children located by their GPS position. It will also allow the sending of messages from the Police or the Civil Guard to users who are in a certain area.
