‘La Feria del Templo’ moves to Carrer de Pilota while the official event with authorities will take place in the Assembly Hall of the City Hall
Fiestas department relocates Chinese New Year celebrations due to rain forecast
Benidorm City Council's Department of Fiestas, together with the organisers of the Chinese New Year celebrations in the city, have agreed to relocate some of the activities related to this celebration due to the forecast of rain over the weekend. This was announced by the Councillor for Fiestas, Mariló Cebreros, who stated that "we have tried to adapt the program so that, in case of rain, it will not interfere and the planned events can continue to be held indoors." She then emphasised that the organisers "have dedicated a great deal of time and effort to make this event possible."
Thus, ' La Feria del Templo,' which was initially going to be held at Plaza de SS MM los Reyes de España, with stalls selling Asian cuisine, traditional culture and crafts, as well as children's activities and facilities, will now be located on Carrer de Pilota at the Palau d’Esports L’Illa de Benidorm. The fair will open its doors tomorrow, Friday, at 5:00 PM, and will run until 6:00 PM on Sunday. Throughout the weekend, a diverse range of activities will be available to the public.
The official opening ceremony will take place on Saturday in the City Hall's Assembly Hall, beginning at 9:30 AM with the reception of guests. Forty-five minutes later, at 10:15 AM, the official ceremony will commence, with representatives from the Chinese Embassy and invited authorities in attendance. Among them will be the Mayor of the city, Toni Pérez, and other members of the local council.
At noon, the official parade commemorating the Chinese New Year will begin. It will depart from the Plaza de Sus Majestades de España, proceed along the Paseo de la Carretera, and conclude in Elche Park, from where all activities will then move back to Carrer de Pilota.
Mariló Cebreros expressed her confidence that “despite the weather, the entire program will proceed without a hitch” and that “both the Chinese community and the rest of the citizens of Benidorm and beyond will be able to enjoy everything this celebration has to offer.” Finally, the councilwoman noted that “this is the first time our city has hosted this Chinese New Year celebration” and emphasised that “it is an opportunity to strengthen community ties, cultural exchange, and Benidorm’s international profile as an open and diverse city.”
