The project, which will be completed in a week, will end the problems of water stagnation in an area of the site

Benidorm carries out a project to improve rainwater collection in Elche Park

Benidorm ejecuta una actuación para mejorar la recogida de pluviales en el Parque de Elche

Benidorm City Council's Water Cycle Department is carrying out work in Elche Park to improve rainwater drainage. This project was requested by the Street Cleaning Department and the Technical Services, who had noticed that a large puddle regularly forms at the park entrance after rain or when the area is washed down.

The councillors for Water Cycle and Street Cleaning, José Ramón González de Zárate and Luis Navarro, visited the site where the work is being carried out, which they indicated will be completed within a week. González de Zárate explained that "with rain and washing, a large area of stagnant water was left behind due to the lack of slope at that point, which meant the pavement was never completely clean."

What has been done is the construction of a drainage channel "that facilitates the collection of stagnant water" and redirects it to an existing catch basin in the park itself, "thus putting an end to this problem." In addition to resolving this issue, the councillor noted that "we are also improving the park's appearance because it will allow for better cleaning of the area."

The councillor explained that the project was a request made by the Street Cleaning and Technical Services departments, "which we studied and decided to carry out using funds from the renewal of the concessionaire Veolia, so that the entire area of the plaza in front of the fountain will have a rainwater collection system that will eliminate any stagnation." The work, however, will only last about a week, unless adverse weather conditions prevent its completion this week. “We are doing it now well in advance because on March 14, which is the day of the Offering to the Virgin, there will be a large concentration of people in the park, and this way the work will be finished by then,” González de Zárate added.
