The Espai d’Art La Casilla hosts the exhibition ‘Menjars de la terra. Gastronomic legacy by González Pomata’
The Espai d’Art La Casilla will host a new exhibition from next Tuesday, February 4. In this case, it is the exhibition ‘Menjars de la terra. Gastronomic Legacy by González Pomata’, which will open at 7 pm at Vía Emilio Ortuño, 25.
The exhibition is based on the documentary archive of the reporter of the newspaper Información, González Pomata (1926-1996), which is made up of more than 13,000 graphic documents “that represent a fund of incalculable value since they show the work of three decades of collecting ethnographic, culinary and cultural knowledge in the region of Alicante” said the Councilor for Historical and Cultural Heritage, Ana Pellicer.
The exhibition that is coming to La Casilla Espai d'art has been awarded the National Silver Emporia Prize for the best installation of a temporary, transportable and itinerant exhibition, the result of a collaboration agreement between the Carmencita Chair of Gastronomic Taste Studies at the University of Alicante and the Mediterranean Foundation, the custodian of this legacy. It has been curated by the journalist and gastronomic writer Ángeles Ruiz and the historian and head of La Llum Centre, Mari Carmen Velasco.
Pellicer has highlighted that the exhibition includes a space dedicated to the ‘Menjars de Terra’ days organised at the initiative of the newspaper Información, “which lasted 13 gastronomic weeks between 1987 and 1994”. 66 restaurants participated in those days and were enjoyed by more than 15,000 diners. There was collaboration from wineries, companies from the agri-food sector and gastronomic associations, as well as the participation of students from the professional hospitality schools of Santa Pola and Benidorm.
The exhibition contains images of those days “which were held in Benidorm, in 1990 and 1992” recalled the councillor.
