Nine new musicians have joined the band
Concert by the UMB Banda Juvenil in Honor of Saint Cecilia
The gentle rain that has fallen in the city over the past few hours did not prevent the community from upholding the tradition of welcoming its newest members. The event was witnessed by hundreds of residents who filled the arcades of the plaza and the awnings that sheltered them from the weather. Among those present were the mayor, Toni Pérez, the councillor for Culture, Jaime Jesús Pérez, and other members of the municipal council.
Before the ceremony began, the president of the Musical Union, M. Carmen García; the band's principal conductor, Rafa Gómez Parra; and Jaime Jesús Pérez presented instruments to the new members of the band: Inés Ferrer, flute; Alejandro Écija, Guillen Chen, and Mario Ferrer, trumpets; Martín Reyes, euphonium; Marcos Pastor, trombone; José J. Ferrer, percussion; and Francisco Javier Rojas and Pepa Català, cellos.
Next, Gómez Parra conducted the band in a program of children's songs, beginning with "Don Pajarito" by Ferrer Ferrán; followed by "Pequeña suite medieval" by David Rivas; "Barco Pirata" by David Postiguillo; "Duendes" by Juan Daniel Jover; "El ratoncito Pérez" by Josep Ros; "El capitán Corchea" by Guillermo Ruano; "Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer" by Álvaro Cámara; "Moana" by Mark Mancina; and concluding with "La luz que nace en ti" by La Oreja de Van Gogh, a piece also sung by the UMB School of Music choir.
As an encore, the audience, children wearing red Santa hats, and the band performed the traditional Valencian Christmas carol "Fum, fum, fum."
At the event, Toni Pérez presented the prizes for the Christmas Card Contest of Unión Musical.
