In the downtown, Calvari-Nou association will addres urgently the possible excess noise

The City Council will propose solutions for bus traffic problems in Perú Street

19 September 2019
El Ayuntamiento propondrá soluciones para los problemas de tráfico de autobuses en la calle Perú

One more Thursday, the Councilors for Citizen Participation, Ana Pellicer, and Street Cleaning and Works, José Ramón González de Zárate, together with municipal technicians and concessionaires and the Vice President of the Neighborhood Council, Terea Garrido, have met representatives of neighborhood associations. On this occasion, it was the turn for Calvari Nou 2010 and Barceló-Ricardo Bayona groups.

The president of Calvari Nou Association, Francisca Fuster, pointed out the main concerns that affect the neighborhood: noise and cleaning problems. In this regard, Ana Pellicer said they will undertake "little by little from the relevant municipal areas."

On the other hand, in the meeting with Barceló-Ricardo Bayona associates, the issue that most worries the neighborhood is the traffic generated by the traffic of buses that, in large numbers, end up collapsing Perú Street, when accessing a hotel establishment. It is an "important" problem, said González de Zárate. Therefore, the City Council will dialogue with the establishment to schedule arrivals to the establishment by bus, but not the departures “as we have done in the downtown area”. In this way, traffic would be reduced, in principle, by half.

Another of the alternatives that the councillor has pointed out is the change of stops or the realization of some work that allows "to the circulation of cars when buses are dropping up customers". The problem has a solution but it will not be immediate. Measures must be taken that will have to be “studied by the municipal technicians and we hope they will be executed as quickly as possible”.

After the meetings with the neighborhood representatives, the Councilor for Participation has emphasized the work that continues to be carried out after the weekly meetings in the neighborhoods. In this way, the “city is still being cleaned and “the repair of the cobblestone continues, which is improving accessibility” in the old town. In Colonia Madrid neighborhood, the adaptation of the tree pits has been resumed, and in the Huerta neighborhood "we continue with the clearing and repair of potholes on the roads".
