Over the next week the last section will be enabled and the installation of all urban furniture will be completed

The City Council opens two sections of the renovated Mallorca street, now entirely for pedestrians

Calle Mallorca

Benidorm City Council is going to open two sections of Mallorca street to pedestrian traffic this afternoon, once “the renovation work on this road, one of the main points in Levante area, has been practically completed. A very important investment has been made to update all services, especially hydraulic infrastructures, and the urban scene ”. This has been reported by the mayor, Toni Pérez, who this morning has approached the area together with the councillor of Works, José Ramón González de Zárate, to check the latest works and share impressions with neighbors and businessmen.

As the councillor has detailed, “this Friday afternoon we will put into service the two sections of Mallorca Street that run between Lepanto and Mediterráneo Avenue, in which over the next few days the installation of urban furniture will be finished ”. Also next week the last section will be opened, between Lepanto and Ibiza streets, once the painting of the new pavement is completed.

Toni Pérez has indicated that “in addition to the new aesthetic aspect that this road presents, the most significant change is its conversion into a totally pedestrian street from beginning to end, by making pedestrian the last section where vehicles circulated, between Gerona street and Mediterráneo Avenue ”. Likewise, he stressed that "as we have been doing in each and every one of the works, we have observed total accessibility as Mallorca Street remains being a road with no sidewalks".

The mayor stressed that "finally the works have been executed in just four months, significantly reducing the initial schedule, which was seven months." “We said that an extraordinary effort was going to be made to accelerate this project so that Mallorca Street would be completely renovated, coinciding with the arrival of British tourism, the main market in this area of Benidorm. And although the City Council has fulfilled its commitment, unfortunately the city still does not receive the long-awaited tourism from the United Kingdom; Although the latest decision of the British government to keep Benidorm in the 'amber' rating allows us to keep hope for the end of August or the beginning of September, so that we will have an autumn opening of tourist services and establishments practically at 100 % ".

The 'Renovation and improvement of the water infrastructure in Mallorca Street' project has included “the renovation of all public water, electricity, and telecommunications services, as well as the urban scene with the installation of new pavement, trees and furniture. .

This renovation has included the stretch of Mallorca street between Ibiza street and Mediterráneo Avenue and has involved an investment of about 945,000 euros, financed through the 2020-2027 Renewal Fund of the water contract

In the section on hydraulic infrastructures, the drinking water pipeline has been replaced and a wastewater collector has been created that connects with the new network of Mediterráneo Avenue. The rainwater network has also been replaced, incorporating a new one, and hydrants and drains have been installed to collect rainwater from the establishments. All these actions "will improve efficiency and reduce maintenance costs."

In addition, the entire section of work has been paved with printed asphalt of different colors, and all the palm trees have been renewed. In the coming weeks the final lighting, equipped with LED technology, and cameras will be installed.
