The City Council meets the neighborhood demands of the Historic Center of Benidorm

20 February 2020
El Ayuntamiento cumple las demandas vecinales del Centro Histórico de Benidorm

The City Council has fulfilled the “vast majority” of the requests made by the residents of the Old Town last August, today Ana Pellicer, Councilor for Citizen Participation, certified it after the tour this morning, six months later, with representatives of the association of neighbors, of the Neighborhood Council, and of the person in charge of Works, Street Cleaning and Public Space, José Ramón González de Zárate.

Some lawsuits that referred to, among others, “the elimination of signage, cleaning, placement of benches in areas such as Mercado Street, or in Tomás Ortuño”, in addition to the “repair” prior to the Majors Patronals Festes, that was made in the facade of the Museum 'Boca del Calvari'. In the old town, as in the rest of the visits to the neighborhoods of Benidorm, the “positive” of the initiative has been demonstrated because “neighbors themselves - Pellicer remembers - are who send us these small or large requests that are still doing a little better our city".

On the other hand, González de Zárate specified that for the city it is “fundamental that accessibility is 100%” and, precisely, it is an aspect that it has has been working a lot in the center. In this sense, he has referred to the new ramps installed in Paseo de Colón “where the old town begins” or the one in Levante, in front of Bilbaíno hotel. "Two performances - he stressed - that have thanked neighbors and tourists."

In terms of cleaning, throughout the visit it has been found that the city is fine, although “small problems of uncivil people” are still detected. In this regard, the councilor announced that from the Department of Road Cleaning inspections will be carried out to “take out the garbage at the time allowed by the municipal ordinance”.

Besides, in the interview with the neighbors, the councilor referred to a series of requests that "are not the responsibility of the City Council", as in the case of posters of establishments that no longer exist. Despite this, the municipal brigade has already withdrawn "more than ten". "In the absence," he said, "that the owners do, we will do it."

Next week, Pellicer and González de Zárate, together with representatives of the Neighborhood Council, will tour Rincón de Loix. The councillor of Citizen Participation announced that it will be at 10.00 in the morning, on Juan Fuster Zaragoza Avenue, in front of the health center and encouraged as many neighbors as they wish to participate in the meeting.
