The PSOE highlights that the “paralysis” of Toni Pérez’s government is evident, as the most voted proposal is something as basic as keeping the Palau d’Esports in perfect condition

Citizens “show shame” to the PP’s management with the votes on the Participatory Budget of Benidorm

Cristina Escoda del grupo Socialista.

The socialist municipal group has highlighted that the proposal most voted by citizens for its possible inclusion in the Participatory Budget of 2025 “brings to shame” the management of the government of Toni Pérez and reveals his “paralysis” at the head of the Benidorm City Council. The socialist spokesperson, Cristina Escoda, has recalled that yesterday the list of proposals presented to the Participatory Budget of 2025 was reported in the Neighbourhood Council, the most voted being the improvement and maintenance of the gym and the swimming pool of Palau d’Esports l’Illa de Benidorm.

In this sense, she has pointed out that “it is a real shame that the neighbours themselves have to come to raise such a basic issue as keeping municipal facilities in perfect condition”. “This slap on the wrist from citizens confirms the complaints that we have been making from the opposition about the abandonment of Palau and confirms the neglect and apathy of the local government that is incapable of keeping it in perfect condition”.

Escoda has explained that the most voted proposal from residents states that several machines in the gym have recurring faults, some are in poor condition and have been improvised with insulating tape and others require basic maintenance. In addition, they propose installing new machines, repairing the ceiling of the spinning room, which in some places is raised with the risk of falling off, and improving the maintenance of the pool. In short, they state that a “comprehensive intervention must be carried out to optimise the user experience and guarantee the safety and quality of the facilities”.

Finally, the socialist leader has stressed that seeing the rest of the proposals presented by the residents, it is more than clear that the Popular Party government is not complying with the minimum required of municipal managers, which is nothing more than maintaining the facilities and public spaces and reinforcing the services offered to citizens. Among the 82 proposals received this year by the Neighbourhood Council are matters such as improving the maintenance of Paseo de Poniente, checking the streetlights, and inclusive playgrounds, improving study spaces, installing more litter bins or improving cleanliness in the city. “If the mayor dedicated more time to managing his city and put aside his photos and trips around the province, Benidorm would be in perfect condition and residents would not consider issues such as cleaning or improving libraries as possible investments,” she said.
