Benidorm will organize the park- and- ride parking space on Beniardá Avenue with an investment of 2.1 million euros

Benidorm reordenará el aparcamiento disuasorio de la avenida de Beniardá con una inversión de 2,1 millones de euros

Benidorm City Council will reorganise the park-and-ride parking space on Avenida de Beniardá, located in Partida de El Moralet, with a project whose investment will exceed 2.1 million euros and which will allow the existing infrastructure to be improved under criteria of functionality and sustainability. This was conveyed by the mayor of the city, Toni Pérez, and the councillor for Mobility, Francis Muñoz, who last week visited this car park as part of the activities organised in the municipality on the occasion of the European Mobility Week.

“We continue to invest in an issue as important for this local government as is the improvement of the offer of free parking, in this case with a project financed from Europe and which will greatly improve this space”, stressed the mayor, who also stated that with these infrastructures “we continue to promote the use of public transport and the bicycle as a means of internal transport in the city”.

This first phase of the project ‘Sustainable Urban Drainage System for the implementation of a dissuasive parking lot on a municipal plot in Partida del Moralet’ is part of the ‘Benidorm Vision 360’ Tourism Sustainability Plan and is endowed with a budget of 2,104,700.58 euros (VAT included), from the European Next Generation funds to act on a total area of 17,244 square meters, of which 15,018 are intended for parking and the rest, for service areas, buffering and landscape regeneration. With this arrangement, the existing surface parking spaces will be maintained, but their distribution will be made more efficient to reach up to 396 general spaces, 7 family spaces and 16 vehicles for people with reduced mobility, as the councillor of the area has advanced.

Francis Muñoz explained that the planned actions include the incorporation of “a station for regulating the entry and exit of vehicles, a station for counting capacity and a new electrical installation, which will include public lighting, surveillance and access control systems and the irrigation installation”. Likewise, “the pre-installation of the future network to serve the electric vehicle charging stations will be completed” which will be implemented in the next phase.

The Councillor for Mobility indicated that “the entire design will be based on sustainability criteria, implementing buffer barriers and landscape regeneration areas that mitigate the effects of the works on El Moralet Park”.

In addition, “the existing trees will be integrated, as well as the minimisation of soil sealing”. This is, according to Muñoz, “one of the most innovative actions included in the project”. Specifically, the current dirt pavement will be replaced by a concrete surface with sustainable drainage, which will serve to store, and infiltrate as much rainwater as possible, so that, the councillor added, “not only will we improve comfort, avoiding all the dust that is currently generated and creating pedestrian routes within the car park itself, but we will also recover rainwater that will not be lost”.

Finally, Francis Muñoz indicated that the City Council has already prepared the project and is only waiting to receive authorisation from the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana and the Canal Bajo del Algar to proceed to tender and award the work so that it can begin “as soon as possible”.
