Users of the Specific Center of People with Chronic Mental Illness (CEEM) of Benidorm will again carry out this year environmental volunteer work, in view of the good results that this activity has had in its two previous editions. An activity in which six resident volunteers of the CEEM participated in 2019 together with an educator from the center and the rural guard of Benidorm City Hall.
This activity, coordinated by the Department of the Environment that Mónica Gómez directs, is a rewarding experience for the participating volunteers, while at the same time it is an important environmental task for the municipality. In 2019, these environmental volunteer work was carried out in Serra Gelada Natural Park where it is about eliminating an invasive exotic plant, Pennisetum setaceum, of great danger due to its expansive potential; while in 2018 it was operated in the surroundings of Sequia Mare Park, freeing it of waste before the construction of the park.
To close the year of volunteering, which takes place one day a week, the residents of the CEEM project participants enjoyed a guided route to Albir de la Serra Gelada Lighthouse accompanied by an environmental educator from the Natural Park.
