Since yesterday afternoon, the Boca del Calvari Museum has hosted the exhibition by the well-known Alicante illustrator Miguel Calatayud, 'A World of One's Own', an exhibition that was inaugurated by Mayor Toni Pérez and the Councilor for Historical and Cultural Heritage, Ana Pellicer, and which It was attended by the author himself and Commissioner Loreto Rodríguez, as well as members of the local corporation and numerous neighbours.

The origin of this exhibition is based on another exhibition held in Benidorm on the Alicante Enlightenment in 2022. One of the participants and a great friend of Miguel Calatayud expressed the similarity between Benidorm and the aspect and tone related to leisure culture. so present and recognizable in a comic by Miguel Calatayud titled 'La Pista Atlántica'. For not too long, the idea of paying attention to the matter took shape as an exhibition sample, which ended up being defined coinciding, precisely, with the reissue of said work by the Valencian publishing house Desfiladero.

The exhibition, which will remain at Boca del Calvari until the end of July, is made up of different parts. On the Ground floor, the visitor will find a compendium of illustrations, whose story continues on the first floor dedicated to signage and graphic design and where comics, posters and illustrations by Calatayud are included. The ground floor contains all the work related to 'La Pista Atlántica' while, finally, on the second floor, different projections based on his graphic novel 'El Pie Frito' are shown.

Ana Pellicer highlighted at the inauguration that Calatayud is “a reference in illustration at an international level” and that having this exhibition in the city means “expanding our cultural offering.” At that point, curator Loreto Rodríguez thanked “the entire team that has composed and designed this exhibition” and expressed “the great excitement that Miguel Calatayud's work is here.” Rodríguez also highlighted Benidorm's “commitment to culture.”

The artist, for his part, wanted to thank “the importance that has been given here to my work” and stressed that the City Council “dedicates a wonderful space to something that was previously considered minor art.” Calatayud stressed that, far from being a minor art, “the charm it has is that it is only to be seen.” Furthermore, he expressed his “pleasant surprise at the exhibition setup” and wanted to congratulate “the team that conceived it.” “Everything has been produced in Benidorm, I am very satisfied and I expressed this to the mayor” she concluded.

Finally, the mayor stated that Benidorm, like Miguel Calatayud “is a city that creates, that has creativity” and expressed the “pride” of the city “of this Alicante artist.” Toni Pérez encouraged everyone “to enjoy a work that will be with us until the end of July.”
