The action, with a budget of 71,129 euros, will improve drainage in the area and will have an execution period of one month

Benidorm will receive a grant of 30,000 euros from the Provincial Council of Alicante to expand the rainwater network and improve the drainage on Bernat de Sarrià avenue

Benidorm City Council will receive a grant from Alicante Provincial Council of 30,000 euros to undertake the expansion of the rainwater network on Bernat de Sarrià avenue, as stated in the resolution of the provincial entity published in the BOP on November 8.

The action budget amounts to 71,129.85 euros, so the subsidized amount amounts to 42.17% of the total. This point has been ruled today in the informative commission of Urbanism. The subsidy from the Diputación emanates from the call for aid for the repair and first establishment, reform, or major repair of hydraulic supply and sanitation infrastructures.

In the case of this subsidy, the intervention focuses on the proposal for Bernat de Sarrià avenue in the section between Zamora and Juan Fuster Zaragoza streets. The Councilor for the Water Cycle, José Ramón González de Zárate, explained that “drainage will be improved in this section to avoid the formation of water dams, something common during episodes of intense rains”.

To do this, "action will be taken on the opposite sidewalk to the Ensanche de Levante", executing "a collector that will be connected to the Juan Fuster Zaragoza rainwater network, and installing scuppers". This action amounts to 71,129.85 euros and the execution period is one month.

Once the grant has been confirmed, the City Council will now proceed to tender and award the action, so that the start of the work will take place in January 2023.

González de Zárate has insisted that the main objective is "to put an end to the important water dams that occur when there are heavy rains, which not only generate inconvenience but also affect road safety." The mayor has also indicated that this water entered some establishments with a consequent impact on individuals.

The Councilor for the Water Cycle has elaborated that "in Benidorm, there is a lot of money invested in the subsoil", and it is precisely this type of investment, which is often perceived as annoying work, which makes it possible that while in other very close locations there are problems of turbidity with the drinking water as a result of the rains, in Benidorm there are no incidents in the service”.
