Benidorm will invest in energy savings the 240,000 euros which has reduced in consumption the last year
The measures taken in previous years have reverted in a decrease of the expenditure in electricity
It is going to be acted in the purification plant, Orts Llorca, Bernat de Sarrià Avenue, in the House of the Fester and on Christmas lighting
Benidorm City Hall will reinvest in energy saving measures about 240,000 euros in which technicians estimate that electricity will have been reduced by the end of 2016. The councilman of Environment, José Ramón González de Zárate, explained that the spending on electricity has declined thanks to "the various actions that have been carried out in recent years in the area of energy efficiency, mainly through renovation works and in municipal buildings." Among these measures it is the implementation of LED technology or the centralization of traffic control. Hence the intention of the City Council is to continue investing in energy efficiency measures so that consumption and spending "are further reduced in 2017". The municipal budget for electric energy consumption for this year amounts to 2,165,000 euros, of which 1,550,469.28 euros were consumed between January and October. The technicians estimate that "during the months of November and December the expenditure will amount to around 375,000, which will leave a residual of 239,530.72 euros, amount that we want to allocate to measures that allow us to get more savings." From the area of Engineering it has been proposed to allocate this remainder to four actions. The first is the installation of a magnetic levitation turbocharger at the treatment plant in Benidorm, as one of the three it is not working. The councilman detailed that 59% of the cost of this action - 71,000 euros - will be financed by the remaining energy savings, while the remaining 41% -49,000 euros - will be made with other items. The second action, 131,629.41 euros, for the renovation of the street lamps of Dr. Orts Llorca Avenue and the installation of public lighting in the stretch of Bernat de Sarrià Avenue between Severo Ochoa and Ciudad Real. The third action is the replacement of air conditioning machines in the Casa del Fester -15,000.80 euros; and the last, the reinforcement of the lighting of Christmas reaching more neighborhoods.
Works authorized during the Patron Major Festivities
De Zárate, who also has responsibility for Works, recalled that the municipal ordinance prohibits works on public roads in summer, Christmas and Majors Patron Festivities, except in cases where it is in the general interest to recommend its continuity. The councilman has reported that a decree has been signed to authorize the continued work during the Major Patron Festivities to improve the drainage of rainwater in Orts Llorca - both phases -, and Foietes Park, the playgrounds of Rincón Loix and Italia street. In addition, there will also be working on fiber optic, natural gas, electricity pipelines accessibility signs and road signaling, that are being developed in La Cala and on some streets of Els Tolls and Rincón de Loix. Execution orders in private properties may also be carried out due to safety or health conditions. The councilman has indicated that the works will be paralyzed in case neighborhood complaints due to excessive inconvenience.
